ARTS ASSOCIATION Sport JuJitsu Competition Fighting Rules
Each match consists of two fighters
(matched according to weight, rank and age), three corner judges,
one center referee, and various support personnel. Judges keep score
with two counters (one for red fighter and one for white fighter).
Center referee has complete control of the running and safety of
each match. Additionally center referee will call throws, chokes,
and armbars.
The contests are run-in a continuous
fighting format. Contests can only be stopped by the center referee
(and only the center referee), for the following reasons.
1. Time limit for round has run
2. Infraction of rules.
3. Injury.
4. Loss of equipment.
5. Forfeit.
Points are awarded for the following:
1. Kick or Punch
1 Point
2. Mount
2 Points
3. Half-Throw or takedown 2 Points
4. Full-Throw
3 Points
5. Choke or Submission 4 Points
6. Armbars
4 Points
Continuous fighting format rounds are
one to one and a half-minute in length (minimum two rounds) per
contest. Round length in championship contests may be extended by
tournament director; if he deems it reasonable and prudent. (Maximum
2.5 minutes per round. Minimum 2 rounds) No ties. Counters are
cleared at the end of each round.
Corner Judges have very important
jobs primarily consisting of the following:
1. Keeping track of points for kicks
and strikes according to Judges best martial arts ability in
recognizing and recording these proper kicks and strikes.
2. Keeping track of points for other throws, chokes, and armbars.
And infractions as finally determined by center referee.
3. Judges will notify cantor referee by verbal and waving of one or
both of their flags that represent one or both of infracting
fighters. Center referee will stop contest at this time and call for
infraction. Center Referee may stop contest on his own for
infractions if he sees fit.
4. Judges may confer with the center referee about any concerns they
may have about rules or the running of the contest. The canter
referee has the final say in this regard, however.
5. At the end of each round, upon the request from the center
referee, each Judge will look at his counters before clearing them
and signify by waving the flag of the leading fighter or cross flags
if there is a tie.
Primary Infractions:
1. Hitting or kicking below the belt.
2. Kicking or sweeping above mid calf.
3. Hitting or kicking more-than once while in the grasp.
4. Striking illegal target areas. (Described later).
5. Excessive contact. (Described later).
6. Poor sportsmanship (Described later).
7. Causing injury (Described later).
8. Kicking down on an opponent who is on mat.
9. Headlock techniques that don't involve cloth
10. Excessively dangerous throws or techniques that would not be
considered by tournament management to be an acceptable technique
for sport. (Can carry disqualification penalty)
11. Rabbit Punching
12. Intentionally fighting out of bounds* or getting on mat to avoid
contact. All rules including infractions will be covered adequately
prior to the beginning of the contest so that everyone will be
fighting equally.
Contact: Light contact to the head
and medium contact to the body. Techniques should be clean and
controlled, not for the purpose of a knockout but for clean, safe,
fighting-sport. (Only legal target areas may be attacked.) Excessive
contact will be called and excessive contact calls will take
precedent over lesser Infractions. (E.G. Illegal target with
excessive force. Excessive force will be dominant.)
1. One Warning Excessive Contact, add
one point to opponents score
2. Second warning, two points added to opponents score.
3. Third warning automatic disqualification, (Contestant can
however, be disqualified at any time for excessive contact if it is
sufficiently dangerous to warrant it.)
4. Offsetting penalties maybe instituted in some cases. (Standard
offsetting penalty format)
Scoring Note: Up to Seven points can
be scored by one fighter in one exchange. E.G-(Kick or strike while
in grasp followed by full throw, followed by submission bold. A
downed fighter may score from ground with strike, reversal or
submission. Illegal target areas: 1. Neck 2. Spine 3. Kidneys 4.
Groin 5. Area-between midcalf and belt.
Mandatory Equipment
1. Hand gear
2. Footgear
3. Cup with supporter for Men
4. Mouthpiece
Optional but recommended equipment
1. Shin pads
2. Head gear
3. Chest for women
Special clinics will be provided for
fighters and officials prior to competition.
No fighter will benefit from the
injury of his opponent and if he injures intentionally he may even
be held responsible for the injured fighter. Any fighter who
demonstrates poor conduct and poor sportsmanship may be disqualified
from match and or tournament. Any qualified representative of a
team, fighter, or school may dispute a match outcome to the
tournament director as long as it is timely, respectful and
reasonable.
Grappling can and will be allowed
under the following Circumstance:
1. Standing in the grasp 5 seconds to accomplish a throw or
takedown.
2. On the mat 10 seconds to accomplish a choke or an armbar. If 5 or
10 second situation runs its time and is not accomplished than
referee will break opponents and start them from the spot of
breaking as long as it is within bounds.
3. Infractions of rules that are not specifically assigned point
losses will be handled as warnings 1, 2, 3 (disqualification)
